Umero is a communications workflow server which provides organisations with the ability to reduce the cycle time for transaction processing between internal systems and customers.
An outgoing transaction to a customer typically starts with the customer backend system sending the transaction through Umero’s Integration Modules, then routed through a series of Automated or Human Operations before being delivered to one or more Umero Communications Modules. An outgoing transaction is similar except that it works in the opposite direction.
Umero server provides a framework where transactions are routed from one module to another by Umero’s workflow engine.
i. Umero Module – Every Umero module performs a specific operation on the transaction which it receives from the workflow. New modules are provided as the technologies evolve to protect the client’s investment in the Umero framework. The modules are categorised into Integration, Communications, Automation and Web modules.
ii. Umero Workflow Engine – Umero has a graphical workflow configurator which allows the Administrator to create workflows which routes the transaction between the different modules. Routing can be based on simple “Pass” / “Fail” results of each module, or the rules intepreter of the “Director” module. Each Umero is capable of supporting hundreds of workflows to support the organisations’s processes. Due to its graphical representation of the workflow, they are easily understood and can be designed and modified by the Umero Administrator.
The purpose of Integration modules is to provide a code free interface between the client’s backend system and Umero for sending and receiving transaction data. To connect to the backend system, the type of system connection must first be determined, and the relevant Umero connector selected for the integration. A module channel is then assigned to connect a specific process to the system using the provided System access credentials. This ensures that every workflow is correctly and securely connected without risk of data contamination or unauthorized access. Standard Integration.
Filegate Module
Umero Filegate integrates with in-house applications by means of XML and/or text files. For outbound traffic, job data is used for routing, template merging, etc. For inbound traffic, files contain job data from preceding workflow connectors (eg, fax, ocr, etc).
Datagate Module
Datagate connector integrates with in-house applications by means of database. For outbound traffic, job data is used for routing, template merging, etc. For inbound traffic, database will contain job data from preceding workflow connectors (eg, fax, ocr, etc).
MQ Module
MQgate connector integrates with IBM MQ through uploading of xml attachments to a selected MQ queue. When an xml attachment is uploaded to Umero, it creates and sends a job / transaction to the MQ queue. Notifications for the processing status of the job can be added for the queue.
Mailgate Module
Mailgate connector integrates with email servers through secure SMTP. For outbound traffic, email headers contain data used for routing and template merging. For inbound traffic, email body contains job data from preceding workflow connectors (eg. fax and ocr).
sFTPgate Module
sFTPgate connector integrates with FTP servers through secure FTP. For outbound traffic, FTP file contains metadata used for routing, template merging, etc. For inbound traffic, FTP file contains job data from preceding workflow connectors (eg, fax, ocr, etc).
PrintConnect Module
PrintConnect integrates with DMS and CRM applications its document print driver
API Module
Umero API enables connection to cloud and external applications through secured API channels.
The purpose of Automation Modules is to provide a dedicated operation which replaces an otherwise manual operation. Each module can perform a specific operation with different functional outputs. For example, a conversion operation could convert a document body or attachment and have several resulting output as Tiff / JPEG / PDF with different resolution / colour depth / dithering pattern / page size etc. To cater to different requirements of different workflows, a each workflow can be assigned a specific channel which is configured to generate the specific functional output. Standard automation Modules are shown below:
OCR Module
OCR connector includes a built-in Optical Character Recognition engine which processes TIFF images to produce text searchable PDF documents. English, Chinese, Japanese and Korean text are supported.
Barcode Module
Barcode connector reads 2D and 3D barcode images to extract data that are merged to reports, updated to a database or used to route documents.
Merge Module
Merge module merges data extracted from documents or connected applications to custom templates to create formatted documents on-the-fly. Supports text, rtf, MS Word and PDF formats.
Conversion Module
Conversion processes incoming and outgoing jobs, and converts them to the required formats. Attachments such as Microsoft Office documents, PDF and JPG files are converted to TIFF images for outgoing fax transactions, and received documents can be converted to PDF formats for archival.
Datalink Module
Datalink connector integrates to in-house databases, allowing jobs to query and/or update job details to these databases. Examples include: customer detail query, job audit update, billing data update.
Split Module
Faxed and scanned documents received by Umero are split at specific pages indicated by separators such as bar code or rules. Split documents are tagged with metadata information, including the parent ID which are used for reconciliation and audit reports.
Form Module
Identifies received form ID and captures the required data fields for correction and upload to a database. Sensitive data fields such as credit card details are encrypted and masked and accessible only to authorized personnel for checking and correction.
User, Groups and Roles Manager
Within Umero, permissions for executing specific actions are controlled by a roles module. Custom roles can be created with specific permissions, which can then be assigned to users and / or groups for carrying out specific actions. This enable corporations to define specific permissions for team members, supervisors and group administrators.
Workflow Designer
Umero uses a web-based Workflow Designer with an easy to use drag-and-drop toolset to develop and manage the messaging workflows. The Workflow Designer can:
- Create branching workflows to route the messages from connector to connector
- Define the priority of the messages - Transform the message metadata with functions, expressions and custom plugins
- Import and Export the workflows between UAT to Production Environments and more
Reports Engine
Umero’s Report Engine allows users to create reports based on their specific needs; which can be in standard, detailed or custom formats. Reports can be extracted from production databases, and Crystal Report.
Transaction Manager
Every messaging job which enters Umero is tracked by the Transaction Manager from the time of entry to the completion of workflow.
The Transaction Manager can:
- Create a timestamp as the message enters and/or exits the connector allowing the message history to be reported
- Display the real time metadata values of the message for debugging purposes
- Group the messages by workflows, status, timestamp to allow ease of management and troubleshooting
Integration Configurator
The Integration Configurator defines the parameters for integrating Umero to external applications. These may include details like IPAddress, protocol, port number, application account, etc. It also determines the mapping of inbound messaging jobs to Umero default workflows and the mapping of outbound jobs to Connector Functions.
The purpose of Web Modules is to provide interfaces through which authorised Users may perform permitted actions on the transaction data or document attachments as part of the transaction workflow. Users may interact through the Web Admin Portal, Desktop Printer Driver, Desktop File Folder to create, retrieve, act on the messages / forms, route the messages and generate reports. Administrators may configure the system and be restricted from reviewing any user documents. Some of the Web Portal Functions are shown below:
Messaging Portal
Send and receive personal and group fax, sms and email messages. Supports mass messaging and message reports.
Workflow Designer
Create straight through processing transaction workflows with integration points through configuration interfaces.
Transaction History
Track received and sent messages for reconciliation, reporting and audit compliance.
Process Portal
Create, comment and approve tasks assigned to you or your team. Generate task reports for reconciliation and task tracking.
Maker Checker
Enforces checking of outgoing documents with optional signatures from maker and checker.
Web Forms
Host form on public or intranet network for data processing through a workflow.
The purpose of the Communications Modules is to provide interfaces between Umero and external customers (internal or external) who have no direct access to Umero Web modules. The number of channels in each module will determine the volume of messages which can be transmitted or received simultaneously. For example, a fax module can be configured for 2 to 120 concurrent delivery channels. In addition, communications modules can be deployed in multiple Umero servers should higher volumes or redundancy be required. Communication channels can be grouped for general use or for use by a specific workflow(s). Some standard communications modules include:
Fax Connector
Fax connector integrates with Dialogic Brooktrout and Class 1 / 2 modems to provide connectivity to Telcos and PABXs to send / receive faxes through ISDN, Analog and Fax over IP channels.
