The demise of fax. This has been predicted since the early 2000s. Why do we still have fax? The younger generation may even ask “What is fax?”. While there is no denying that fax for general communications is declining, fax in healthcare, financial institutions or applications with legal, commercial and privacy requirements are still very much in use. For instance, the ongoing 5G Spectrum Auction in Germany requires that representatives of the bidding networks surrender their mobile phones on entering the secure bidding areas; and they can only communicate with the head offices through fax. Some of our customers are in a bit of a dilemma. Enterprise fax hardware and software which meet audit and compliance requirements are costly. Hardware and software refreshes have been put on hold while waiting for fax to become obsolete. And yet, despite waiting 10 years, our customers still continue to use fax. For some, fax volumes have even increased. However, obtaining the budget to refresh this old but mission-critical technology is difficult.

To assist our customers, we have launched a Software as a Service (SAAS) offering which allows our customers to refresh their fax hardware and software for a fixed monthly fee. It is also easier to split the monthly expenses between various departments, and increase / decrease the fax channels as fax volume changes. To further lower the returns on investment, we are introducing new Umero modules which add functionality to the document process without additional 3rd party software or application servers. Some of these modules include Enterprise SMS, DataCapture, OCR, Document Management and more. I will release product announcements as and when modules become available. In the meantime, do feel free to let me know your thoughts and comments on our announcements. You may email steven.tan@ditium.com.
